Over 100 people from OPSM, Laubman and Pank, Budget Eyewear and Sunglass Hut actively go on aid programs every year. As well as that, each of the stores is involved in spectacle recycling and fundraising activities for the charity.Where does donated Money go?
All the money received by Community I-Care is spent directly on our sight-saving programs, from shipping and transportation of testing equipment and personnel through to the supply of the frames and lenses themselves.Community I-Care Program personnel are drawn from volunteers within Luxottica around Australia. Participating staff donate part of their annual leave as a contribution towards the program. Luxottica shoulders the cost of the program’s administration.
What are Croc Festivals?
The Croc Festivals® are three-day events where young people from remote communities can access information/resources in health, education, careers, visual and performing arts, culture and sports. Is Community I-Care related to the Fred Hollows Foundation?
No, it is not. Both organisations work towards giving the gift of sight, but through different programs. The Fred Hollow’s foundation focuses on the treatment and prevention of cataracts and eye disease. Community I-Care concentrates on the world’s biggest cause of blindness – uncorrected refractive error. Our missions to remote communities of Australia, and to countries in need are to provide vision to people who may have spent their entire lives unable to see clearly.
How are the countries selected for Community I-Care’s aid programs?
To enter and work in a country, there is a significant amount of groundwork and coordination necessary from local organisations and governments to allow the importing of spectacles and equipment. Organisations such as The Lions Club and Rotary provide the underlying support in the countries visited to make it possible to run the programs. As a result, it is through them that the need is established.
Community I-Care also works with the Give the Gift of Sight Foundation, which is based in Cincinnati, USA , as well as Canada and Italy. Help is directly delivered by Luxottica associates teaming up with affiliated doctors in conjunction with Lions Clubs International and thousands of local charities and volunteers to achieve the goals.
